Initial contact:

Your Ergonomics Program starts with a meeting to learn more about your company and its needs. Looking at what you have in place, the type of work that is performed, current safety programs, and history of injuries help Anya to determine the most effective and productive aspects to focus on for Ergonomic Programming.

A Workplace Walk -Though is frequently scheduled to observe employees in work/production mode. The on-site tour provides an opportunity for a bird’s eye view of what and how things are done. And, frequently, the question Anya asks the tour guide (Human Resources, Production Manager, Supervisor, or Safety Team Member): “WHY is it being done that way?”

During a walk through, Anya observes work, might chat briefly with employees (giving them an opportunity to show their ownership and personal commitment to the job and process) and takes notes.

The walk-though also provides an opportunity for employers and management to get a sense of where the employees are at, physically, wellness wise, and morale wise. This insight benefits management in initiating and maintaining a positive and productive work environment.

Where to start?

Depending on what you have in place, starting with a management approach may be best. This would include injury records review; identifying the pathways of internal systems of your business around communication between management, communication between management and employees; and how maintenance issues are reported and resolved.

Once these items are adequate, then training on safety issues, from topics ranging from identifying ergonomic risk factors and understand controls to understanding how the back works and how to protect it, can be offered. Training is offered to upper management, supervisors, and employees, in the form of group or individual training, as determined most effective.

Training Workshops to start your program would include Ergonomic Basics (customized for Office or Physical Workers), Strain Sprain Tool Box (back and neck safety for all types of work and home activities) and Task Specific Ergonomic Risk Factor Analysis.
